CS 428: Virtual & Augmented Reality

Homework 2 9/6/19

Unity Screenshot

Above is a screenshot of my running unity program after having set up and followed the vuforia tutorial. I put a spaceship model on top of the image target to make it seem as if the astronaut is viewing the spaceship fly out.
The link to the model is: https://free3d.com/3d-model/e-45-aircraft-71823.html

Viewing this technology through a phone would be less invasive of the user's physical space. It could be used in stores when shopping. When a user finds an item they wish to know more about or are interested, they can view more information by using an app on their phone to view the product's info or demonstrations in augmented reality. This technology can also be used in museums. When a person finds an intersting exhibit they wish to know more about, they could pull out their phone and open an app to view more details or 3D demostrations on the specific exhibit as opposed to having glasses on and viewing all the exhibits not directly through the user's eyes. Another use of this technology that we already have is to add fun or interesting 3D objects to pictures that we take.

Viewing this technology through a pair of AR glasses that people would always wear would be more convenient than having the user pull out their phone and open an app to view augmented reality. It could be used in guiding navigation. Instead of using apps like Google Maps or Waze, the user can view a path in front of them through the glasses that takes them to their destination. They can view real time info right in front of them instead of glancing to the side to look at their phone. Another use would be for playing games. If a group of people wanted to play a multiplayer game in augmented reality, they could all have glasses on, so they can move around and see the same things their friends are seeing.
